Een jonge knaap, die duidelijk te diep in het glaasje heeft gekeken, rijdt 's avonds door het rustieke Amerikaanse stadje Middleton naar huis. Dan een harde klap - de auto wordt door iets geraakt. De klok op het dashboard wijst aan dat het 11:14 uur is. Tegelijkertijd gebeuren er in Middleton meer dingen op precies datzelfde moment. Vier dingen om precies te zijn, en ze kunnen geen van alle het daglicht verdragen.
