Joe Hallenbeck is een aan lager wal geraakte privé-detective. Hij wordt door Cory, vriendin van ex-footballspeler Jimmy Dix, ingehuurd om haar te beschermen. Cory heeft informatie over de eigenaar van Jimmy’s ex club en ze wil hem chanteren om Jimmy weer terug te nemen. Als Cory toch wordt vermoord, komen Joe en Jimmy komen erachter dat er veel meer gaande is dan een simpele afpersing.
