Wanneer Travis uit de gevangenis wordt vrijgelaten, is er in zijn leefwereld veel veranderd. Terwijl zijn vriendin Candice auditie doet voor een musical over Tina Turner, worstelt hun dochter Kenisha op school en is hun band onderling gespannen te noemen. Travis besluit Candice's droomjurk te kopen die uiteindelijk meer problemen binnen het gezin creëert.
