De wereldberoemde violist Ryan Harrison raakt verstrikt in een korte maar passionele relatie met de steenrijke Lauren Goodhue. Zij lokt Harrison echter in de val en beschuldigt hem ten onrechte van de moord op haar echtgenoot, Hibbing Goodhue. De echte dader kan ontsnappen. Harrison wordt door de politie ingerekend en wordt veroordeeld tot de doodstraf. Onderweg naar de plaats van executie kan hij echter door een toevallig busongeluk ontsnappen. Hij is vrij en vastbesloten zijn onschuld te bewijzen. Daarbij krijgt hij de hulp van de bevallige Cass Lake, die hij echter niet volledig kan vertrouwen want misschien heeft zij ook wel iets met de moord te maken...
