Arthur is een aarzelende leider die niets liever wil dan Brittannië verlaten en naar de stabiliteit van Rome terugkeren. Maar voordat hij mag vertrekken, leidt een laatste opdracht hem en zijn ruiters - Lancelot, Galahad, Bors, Tristan, Dagonet en Gawain - hem verder van zijn doel af. Brittannië heeft een koning nodig, die het volk kan verenigen om het land tegen de binnenvallende Saksen te verdedigen.
