Ollie Trinke is een gelikte zakenman uit New York met de wereld aan zijn voeten. Hij is onlangs getrouwd met de liefde van zijn leven, Gertrude en hun eerste kindje is op komst. Zijn perfecte leventje verandert tragisch als zijn vrouw overlijdt. In één klap is hij een alleenstaande vader. Als hij dan ook nog eens zijn baan verliest, moet hij noodgedwongen weer bij zijn vader gaan wonen in zijn geboorteplaats New Jersey.
