Zowel de 23-jarige Bill als de twaalfjarige Matho groeien op als lid van de Lakota in het Pine Ridge reservaat en zijn op zoek naar verbondenheid. Bill wil iets in zijn leven bereiken en is vastbesloten om de Amerikaanse droom waar te maken. Matho wil intussen een volwassen man worden. Voortdurend op zoek naar enige goedkeuring van zijn vader neemt hij een reeks impulsieve beslissingen die Matho’s leven op zijn kop zet. Uiteindelijk lijkt hij nog niet klaar om met de harde realiteit van het adolescentenleven om te gaan.
