Deze serie opent met de gebeurtenissen van 26 november 1983, wanneer zes gewapende mannen inbreken in het Brink's-Mat beveiligde depot nabij de Londense luchthaven Heathrow. Ze vinden daar, zonder dat ze het verwacht hadden, goud ter waarde van 26 miljoen pond. Wat begint als "een typische Old Kent Road gewapende overval" volgens de toenmalige rechercheurs, wordt een belangrijke gebeurtenis in de Britse misdaadgeschiedenis die nog jarenlang herinnerd zou worden. Het was destijds zelfs de grootste diefstal in de wereldgeschiedenis.
