Het verhaal begint met de gruwelijke ontdekking van het lichaam van een tienerjongen dat in het volle zicht is weggegooid. Vastbesloten om te achterhalen wie verantwoordelijk is, bundelt DCI Jeanette Kirkland de krachten met psychotherapeut Sophia Craven om de moordenaar op te sporen, ondanks tegenstand van haar superieuren, waaronder vertrouweling DI Lou Stanley.
